主讲人简介：安佳夫博士，香港大学房地产与建筑系的助理教授，Green, Technology, and Property研究中心主任，香港大学气候与碳中和研究院(ICCN)的核心成员，特许金融分析师(CFA)。他的学术之路始于纽卡斯尔大学的金融学位，随后获得了爱丁堡大学金融管理硕士和金融学博士学位。在2024年加入香港大学任教之前，安博士曾在英国阿伯丁大学和朴茨茅斯大学以及香港岭南大学担任助理教授。安博士的研究领域涉及金融科技、绿色金融、加密货币和金融历史等多个方面，且研究已被金融管理协会和欧洲金融管理协会的多个奖项所认可。他的研究成果已发表在多个领域的知名期刊上，包括Joural of Financial Economics、Management Science、Journal of Development Economics、Journal of Law and Economics、Nature、Nature Communications、Nature Cities、Nature Human Behaviour、PNAS、PNAS Nexus等。他还担任国际领先期刊International Review of Economics and Finance的副主编。

讲座摘要：We study the impact of rugged individualism—the combination of individualism and anti-statism cultivated during the early history of the United States—on firm toxic emissions. Using plant-chemical-level data, we discover that within the same firm, plants in more individualistic counties pollute more relative to their closely-matched peers in the same state. This pollution gap narrowed after the 9-11 attack which exogenously increased collectivism, and widened when competition intensified due to tariff reductions and when economic conditions worsened during the financial crisis. Our channel tests suggest that individualism strengthens antipathy towards environment regulation and favors economic opportunity over environment protection.
